Like Driving down Old Seven Mile Bridge

I have so many shout-outs to make in this post! So let me begin by saying a big hello to our favorite chocolate-covered vegan, Katie. I was looking for recipes to use up some of the carrot pulp leftover from my dad’s juicing extravaganza:

Dad is busy juicing. To all of you that like to buy your brews at Trader Joe's try out Lindemans Belgian Framboise beer with raspberries.

Dad is busy juicing. To all of you that like to buy your brews at Trader Joe's try out Lindemans Belgian Framboise beer with raspberries.

What to do? What to do?

What to do? What to do?

I finally found the perfect recipe! I made a variation of her 24-Carrot Gold Muffins. Instead of muffins, I just made bread. “Same great flavor, just different look.”

IMG_5165Look at all those carrot fibers!

I of course had this as part of my delicious breakfast this morning, but I’ll save that for the next post!

Now moving right along. This next recipe I tried came from another beloved vegan, Gena! After reading all the rave reviews for her Italian “raw cheese”, I knew I had to give it a try. I finally got my hands on some raw cashews.

Enter the infinite abyss of goodness.

Enter the infinite abyss of goodness.

The first step involved getting the cashews to the right consistency. Now I know where the cheesy flavor comes from! So what’d I decide to make?

Polenta rounds and...

A new take on pizza! Polenta rounds and...

...topped with tomato sauce.

... topped with tomato sauce.

Excuse my super cheesy smile. My mom got really into taking pictures of me, and I was just ready to try this! I also quickly sliced some zucchini and cooked it in a Sherry Red Wine Barbeque sauce.

Mom and Dad couldn't wait either!

Oh my! Gena, this recipe was to die for. I’m definitely going to be making this more often. If you haven’t tried it, you should! It’s incredibly easy to make. At the end of the meal I asked my parents how they enjoyed their gluten-free and vegan meal. I follow neither a vegan or gluten-free lifestyle, but I think it’s always interesting to try new things – although I am a vegetarian. Luckily, my parents are very open-minded as well when it comes to food. But in the end we all agree that taste is key! And this meal was one that I wished could’ve lasted forever. Not only was it delicious, but we were all in a good, light-hearted mood. The right way to end a Sunday.

Remember how I asked you guys which nut butter you guys recommended? Well, thanks Jenny for sharing this link with us, I think I’m going to go with a jar of  365 peanut butter.  The other day I went to the local discount healthfood store. As I was making my way down the nut butter aisle to see what they had, I stumbled upon a fairly priced jar of almond butter. I’ve missed my almond butter so much. Surprise, surprise, it was a jar of Blue Diamond! Kailey, I tried this as soon as I got home, and I understand why you love it so much! My mom asked me what it was. How to answer her… to share or not to share? I shared, and she answered. One word came from her mouth. “YUM!!!”

I also found another product at the store that I’ve seen on VeggieGirl’s blog.

Living Harvest Hempmilk

Living Harvest Hempmilk

I don’t think I could drink a cup of this alone. But like I said before, don’t knock it till you try it. It’s a shame because it’s super nutritious and sounds interesting. So what am I going to do with the rest of this carton? I’m using it to add to my smoothies, as most of the flavor comes from the fruits I add in and not really the “milk” I use – unless it’s coconut milk! Oh! At this discount healthfood store I discovered that they sell boxes of Kashi Go-Lean cereal for – get this - $1.67! I’m definitely stocking up before I head back up to Richmond.

Yesterday, I decided to sign up for one more class for the next semester. So these are the classes I’m going to be taking:

Readings in Literature

Taoism

Intermediate Sculpture

Basic Video

Introduction to World Cinema (This is a Saturday class but I heard the teacher is awesome, oh and incredibly good looking!)

So far I’ve tried a few things from my big box of goodies!

I tried the Chocolate Peanut Butter Bliss bar.
I tried the Chocolate Peanut Butter Bliss bar.

Alongside I had a bowl of Bircher Muesli soaked in fig yogurt, topped with fruits and pecans. The bar is so yummy! I wish I took a picture of what it looked like. I could see the little crispy grains and it wasn’t overwhelmingly sweet. I definitely didn’t want to leave my tummy feeling sour before my yoga class. The balance between peanut butter and chocolate was pulled off successfully with this bar! Moreover, they’re also full of protein, fiber, and contain Omega-3′s! I gave a bite for my mom to try as well and she very much enjoyed it. She’s not a picky eater, but I can vouch for her that these are indeed yummy! I’ve never seen them in stores though, so that might be an issue, but Zoe Foods does have an online store. Here’s a link to the following retailers that do carry their bars.

However, there is a product of theirs that I do see in stores often.

Next up is Zoe's Granola!

Next up is Zoe's Granola!

I’ve been looking forward to trying out their granola for a long time! So I made it extra special by making a red wine reduction for some beautiful peach slices. Which granola do I try first? Cranberries Currants, Honey Almond, or Cinnamon Raisin? Decisions decisions. I opted for Honey Almond over some fresh yogurt! Okay, I admit that I knew what I would be getting myself into even before my first bite. I’m happy to report that my intuition failed me not! I loved this breakfast so much.

Lastly, I tried the Chocolate Delight bar.

Lastly, I tried the Chocolate Delight bar.

However, I am not the biggest fan of chocolate on chocolate. It didn’t taste horrible, just not my cup of tea. I gave it to my parents since I would hate for food to go to waste. Luckily, my parents enjoyed this one! I think you have to really like chocolate to want this bar. So for all you super chocolate lovers, you might just find a new addition to indulge your little tastebuds.

I still have more Zoe Foods products to review, so keep an eye out!

Okay, so I think most have you noticed my inner-artist jump out of me and on to my plates! I am a person who’s very much into living an aesthetically pleasing life. Maybe I should go into design? Well I’m majoring in sculpture + extended media already, so I guess I am designing things. I’m a sucker for packaging i.e. L’Occitane. My favorite store is Anthropologie not only because of what they sell, but every time I go in there I feel like I’m being transfered into another world. I even pour my shampoos, spices, whatever I can think of – into glass containers I find at thrift stores. Oh man, do I take this too far? Well, I guess not as long as I’m enjoying it, right? Right!

So anyway, this brings me to my love of colors and vibrancy. I think nature offers all of that and I love to reap what this wonderful world sows. Which brings me to some more lovely eats based on nature, color, and simplicity.

So I’m going to go against all these pictures of fresh food. But it definitely goes with the theme of good tasting food! Someone not too long brought to my attention that you can order chalupas and gorditas at Taco Bell with beans. That means, all these years I haven’t been eating them are now gone. I don’t get cravings for Taco Bell, but when I’m on a road trip, it makes life a lot easier. So on the drive down to Florida I knew what I wanted for dinner. I had my parents find a Taco Bell, and ordered myself a Baja Vegetarian Gordita and it was so yummy! It didn’t fill me up at all, but I had packed other things that helped do the trick. Just wanted to pass the word along to anyone else who did not know this.

Whew! This post was hard work to organize. But I love sharing with you guys, and I love what I learn from all of you. Everyone is different, but I can still see the inspiration we all get from each other’s wonderful eats.

p.s. If you haven’t tried Edy’s tart honey yogurt blend, I highly suggest it! I can’t wait to try out other flavors. I’m thinking I might have a slice of carrot bread and a some Edy’s before I go to bed.

Boast about your Toast

Go in this direction when cleaning your eyes.

Go in this direction when cleaning your eyes.

The summer I was fifteen years old I decided to go to beauty school rather than the usual summer camp. My mom actually came up with this idea! She was like, “would you rather go to beauty school or summer camp… again?” So of course I wanted to be like Frenchie from Grease, minus the drop out part. I learned many divine secrets of the ya-ya sisterhood, and once in a blue moon I decide to share these tidbits. Well, readers, tonight is one of those nights! I know some people are concerned with the wrinkles emerging around their expressive eyes. Here’s a little secret that was passed on to me: when cleaning around your eyes, go outward for the upper lid area and inward (towards the nose) for underneath. Basically, in a counter clockwise motion. Also, it’s best to use your ring finger since it puts the least amount of pressure. Makes sense, huh?

What are your beauty secrets?

A basket full of goodies.
A basket full of goodies.

These are some of my favorite beauty products that I use. I started using pond’s cold cream when I found out that is one of my grandma’s secrets. So many secrets in this post! I won’t divulge her other one though. The round thing you see is actually a solid shampoo by this company called LUSH. All of their products are handmade and they use fresh, organic fruit and vegetables. And whenever I’m down in Florida I use some of my mom’s stuff too, like her Kérastase products. Neela knows what’s up and also uses this brand!

The big kahuna!

The big kahuna!

Coconut oil can be used for so many things! Sometimes I even use it to remove my eye makeup. For the most part I leave it on my hair overnight and wash it out in the morning. It leaves my hair feeling and looking incredibly soft! Umm did I mention that it tastes delicious too?

However, I think the best beauty secret is a glass that’s half full… half full of what? Positivity! I find that looking at the bright side of things and keeping stress at bay is a big contributor to aging well. There’s this look of calm, grace, and innocence that I can see in people’s faces when they have this attitude. Being around people like this bring my heart level down, not out of boredom, but because they’re exuding all these good vibes. Less tension equals a less tense face!

What is beauty? Not the show
Of shapely limbs and features. No.
These are but flowers
That have their dated hours
To breathe their momentary sweets, then go.
‘Tis the stainless soul within
That outshines the fairest skin.

–Sir A. Hunt.

All this talk of beauty led me to thinking about habits I want to change – have been changing. There are certain things that seem unimportant that I really want to develop. Like little things that involve me taking care of my outward appearance. Oh say… putting on lotion, plucking my eyebrows, pampering myself with hair masks. It’s these silly little things that I know will slowly help me regain my confidence and just feel better about myself overall. I think it’s more the idea behind these activities: self-love. I can’t help but feel good inside. Why don’t I deserve to take some time out of my day to indulge in a little princess treatment?

On the topic of self-love, there’s been a wonderful message going around the blog community. Caitlin’s Operation Beautiful has been spreading like wildfire! I love seeing everyone’s notes. The other day I left some of my own around town. They don’t necessarily have to do with loving yourself per se, but it’s the thought that counts!

Later on I went over to my best friend’s house to celebrate a special one year old’s birthday! I also found out one of my good friends is two months pregnant! I’m looking forward to going on our girl’s nights with the baby! Oh my gosh I should get back into crocheting and make something really cute. She doesn’t know if it’s a boy or a girl yet, so maybe I’ll wait.

For Saturday I wanted to make something special. I figured this would make up for not having been able to really celebrate Father’s Day. I decided to make French Toast with a couple of twists. Let’s just say I was inspired by Indian sweets and colonization gone semi-vegan! For the bread I decided to use Trader Joe’s crumpets and I followed a vegan recipe for the mixture.

Man, this French toast has been dog piled! I sliced some strawberries, chopped some macadamias, sprinkled fresh ground cardamom seeds and sugar, and drizzled a bit of maple syrup on everything. Cinnamon sticks can make anything look fancy, but my favorite part is the gooseberry I’d like like to call a little edible beach ball.

Once I started eating it I thought of something else I could add to this! As if there isn’t enough?

My mom joined me mid way through my breakfast. She was running late because she had a session with her personal trainer. Mom is super fit, so don't mess!

After this delicious breakfast I got ready to go to my favorite yoga class. The instructor is incredible and I feel like every time I go to his classes I learn something new, even if he repeats the routine. By the time me and my mom got home we were hungry and ready for lunch! So we whipped up something as quick as we could. Her and I are a dream team in the kitchen. I took care of the veggies, while she handled the rest.

Another fun bowl of oats!

Today started out with a bang! It seems that’s how a lot of days end. What caused this explosion? I swirled some boysenberry jam in my oatmeal and it reminded me of a PB&J sandwich. I want to share Heather’s favorite bowl with everyone. It’s one of the best ideas ever! This “bowl” had another inspiration in it. I boiled my oats in chai tea just like Jemima. Yummy idea, girl!

My favorite grilled cheese sandwich recipe! I mixed avocado oil and balsamic vinegar for the tomato slices, which were topped with a ginger rose.

My favorite grilled cheese sandwich recipe!

I discovered the most wonderful recipe in a magazine a few years ago when I hosted a gourmet grilled cheese sandwich party. Since I didn’t have pumpernickel bread, I just used what I had on hand.

Grilled Cheddar Cheese Sandwich with Mango Chutney

2 slices pumpernickel bread
1 tablespoon butter (room temperature)
2 slices cheddar cheese
1 tablespoon mango chutney

1. Assemble the sandwich and grill until the bread is golden brown and the cheese has melted.

I mixed avocado oil and balsamic vinegar for the tomato slices, which were topped with a ginger “rose” and fresh oregano. In that cup on the left hand corner is an incredible protein smoothie my dad made. I’m not sure what was in it, but it was awesome! On the other plate is a Wasa rye crispbread with peanut butter spread on top and some blackberries.

I tried some more Kay's Naturals chips.

I looked through my box of samples to look for the perfect pairing for my veggies.  I decided on the Crispy Parmesan flavor to go with some TJ’s horseradish hummus. Since I’m doing a review I think it’s only fair to be honest. I wasn’t a big fan of this particular flavor. It just seemed to be lacking something, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it.

365 Everyday Value®

365 Everyday Value®

So I thought buying things from the bulk bins were supposed to be cheaper than packaged items. Well, yesterday Whole Foods proved me wrong. Their private label 365 Everyday Value® is $3.00 cheaper per lb. for cashews. I don’t understand why, but it is what it is. I even checked online, and they were actually cheaper per lb. than any other website. I’m not sure if it’s like that for their other products, but I’m going to go back to Whole Foods to find out! I need to stock up on nuts anyway.

I usually don’t drink cold things, but today I was so glad they had iced cinnamon dolce latte… with soy! She ordered an iced chai latte. We walked to the library with a mission. I had to find Roald Dahl’s Matilda. I also picked up Haruki Murakami’s What I Talk About when I Talk About Running.

I figure it's time to read the book one of my favorite movies is based on!

Matilda is one of my all time favorite movies. I’m not sure how many times I’ve watched it, but it never gets old! As a matter of fact, one of my projects in my first year of college was to recreate a movie. I suggested this movie to my group and everyone was okay with it. On top of that, they said I should be Matilda! Here’s the trailer I made for the project. I’m wasn’t too happy with the final outcome, but I had fun making it. And yes, my doggy is named after her!

Today when my mom came home she announced something that surprised me, and I still can’t believe it. Michael Jackson died earlier today. I know a lot of people are quick to judge him, that’s a part of human nature, but I try not to do that (with anybody). I can’t imagine the life he had and how I would’ve led mine if I were in his situation. I’d imagine I’d be very confused, but proud at the same time. Unfortunately, we lost a legend, but he had such an impact to the world of music and so many other things as well.

Let's end on a sweet note shall we?

Jenny inspired to come up with a concoction to go along with these yummy So-Delicious sandwiches. I found the neapolitan flavor the other day, and without question, I put it in my basket! This reminded me of a fresh banana split, but where’s the whipped cream? That would’ve been perfect.

Breakfasts Fit for Royalty

As I’m sitting here typing this I’m enjoying a nice cup of French vanilla coffee with a splash of vanilla almond milk while it’s pouring outside. I usually don’t drink coffee, so this is a treat! I’m actually glad it’s raining because that’ll help make the temperatures more bearable. I can’t believe I rode my bike to store yesterday in 100+ degree weather. It actually didn’t feel that hot though. Anyway, I think this is the perfect time to share some wonderful breakfast creations I’ve been making. Of course they involve oats and a some granola too!

Gingery Bango Oats

1/2 cup oatmeal (or more)

1 cup liquid (water, milk, milk alternative)

1 scoop banana protein powder (I used Spiru-tein)

1 cup mango chunks

1 Tbl crystallized ginger

1. Boil the cup of water, milk, what have you. Stir in the protein powder. That’s when the yellow kicks in!

2. Once it has reached it’s boiling point, stir in the oats. Now stir every once in awhile until the oats are done cooking.

3. Serve and mix in the mango chunks and crystallized ginger.

Heather’s wonderful idea: using the jar as a bowl for a final farewell to Barney. I definitely wanted to get as much of out of this $10 jar of almond butter as I could. The love affair was amazing while it lasted, but Barney is too high maintenance for me! I think I’d prefer a simpler man who doesn’t want to go on such expensive dates.

1 sliced peach

1/2 sliced banana

Sliced Almonds

Splash of Rose Water

1. Boil the cup of water, milk, what have you with the protein powder.

I saved the best for last! I'll call this delectable creation Ginger Cherry-Almond Oats

Ginger Cherry-Almond Oats

1/2 cup oatmeal (or more if you’re hungry)

1 cup liquid (water, milk, milk alternative)

1 scoop vanilla protein powder (optional but if you omit this then add in 1 tsp vanilla extract)

Smidge sweetner of choice (I used stevia)

Sliced Almonds

1 cup cherries (I used frozen to cool the oatmeal down)

1 Tbl crystallized ginger

1. Boil the cup of water, milk, what have you. Stir in the protein powder, almonds, and sweetener.

2. Once it’s boiling stir in the oats. You know the drill!

3. When it’s done cooking, serve in your favorite bowl and mix in the cherries and crystallized ginger.

Note: You guys don’t have to use protein powder, but since I need to make sure I’m getting enough protein I include it. It makes for a much creamier and thicker oatmeal.

I finished reading Sputnik Sweetheart by Haruki Murakami. I’ve heard a lot about this author and this was my first book of his that I’ve read. The only japanese literature I’ve read are poems and proverbial stories. I’m not sure if his style is typical of contemporary Japanese authors, but I definitely enjoyed the book. I can only imagine all the books he’s read and experiences he’s had because the imagery and language in his writing is wonderful! I’ve been trying to do a lot of summer reading. Actually, I want to read more in general. I know that during my semesters it’s hard to read a book that’s not required for classes, but I’ve managed to. However, I know I could read more. The imagination grows the more one reads. I know I sound like a total nerd, but I’m all about never losing my imagination. I think it’s more important than preserving my skin! But I think my mom would disagree.

Anybody have any book recommendations?

Awhile ago I had visited one of my roommate’s family and I got to try a bunch of wonderful food from the Philippines. They have this wonderful treat called Ube. What is that? Well it’s basically a purple yam and it tastes hella good. If you know of any Philippino stores, you should try some desserts with ube in them. If you don’t have one nearby, you can always go to an Asian market, and I’m sure they will at least have ube jam. It’s seriously worth trying.

During my “recent picture hiatus” I went to the river with my friend, Steph, and some other people. It was so much fun! Thank goodness she was a camp counselor because she helped get the fire going and had a wonderful idea for roasting our veggies.

Hi Steph!

While we were at the river I let Matilda loose and guess what she did? She bolted towards the water. At first I was afraid because I didn’t know what to expect. Matilda was a natural and she had so much fun swimming around.

There she goes!

I also brought along some Philippino treats. They look like eggs - green eggs and ham!

This past weekend my parents flew up to kidnap me. It also happened to be the weekend of Richmond’s Vegetarian Festival. It was such a hot day, but since it was at a park we were able to sit in the shade a lot. I got to sample a lot of things. Among these samples I tried Tofutti’s cuties. These were delicious and perfect for a hot day! The two flavors I sampled were key lime and wild berry.

We were able try different things from a variety of vendors.

So many people! So much heat!

After the festival I decided to take my mom to Trader Joe’s. The last time she had gone to one was over a decade ago! She was so happy I took her there, but she was a little bummed that they don’t have one in Florida. Trader Joe needs to make his way down here! We got a bunch of things, and since we knew we had a long driving day ahead of us we got some travel food. My dad picked out a blackberry Belgian beer that I said I would split with him since we had to do a raincheck for Father’s Day.

Hmm... what's this? Trader Joe's horseradish hummus!

The verdict? Me likey a lot! And so did everyone else.

Yesterday, I arrived at my parent’s house, and of course I always get excited to see what they have. I usually don’t buy crackers, so I was eager to try these. I tried some Harvest Grain Simplyfit crackers. I could make like Kailey and just munch on these straight out of the box! So of course I had some for lunch today. I’ve never tried Kashi’s TLC crackers, but I’d imagine these are just as delicious. They also use 10 whole grains and seeds (like quinoa).

On another note, there are a few perks I’ve discovered since blogging. The main one being all the wonderful people I have encountered! Everyone seems so friendly and open to new things, and I love that! You guys rule! Another perk is getting samples. I hate buying a whole box of something and I end up not liking it. It makes sense to sample something before you dive in, right? Unless you know you’re going to like it, or simply don’t mind. So let’s get to the good stuff!

The generous people at Kay’s Naturals were more than happy to send me some samples of the products.

I'd say they were more than generous!

So far I’ve tried all the cereals, and tonight I plan on trying some more. I’ve liked everything, but my favorite would have to be the Honey Almond Protein Cereal. I loved having it with almond milk and a caramelized banana. Thanks so much for the package, Lindsey! I was seriously blown away when I saw all that was sent to me.

Next up, Michelle, over at Alternative Baking Co. hooked me up with some delicious vegan cookies.

Wow! Which one do I try first? I love anything coconut so of course I couldn’t get enough of the coconut macaroon. The chocolate chip cookie was incredible as well; it tasted like unbaked cookie dough! I loved everything about these cookies. They were chewy just how I like them, and huge just how cookies should be. Thank you so much Michelle!

Lastly, Annette over at Sun Warrior sent me some sample packets of their protein powder. She sent me the vanilla and chocolate flavors. I haven’t tried those yet, but I will definitely report back.

Does anyone have any suggestions for some yummy shakes?

I’m going to save all my breakfast eats for my next post. Yes, they are that good!

I hope you are all enjoying the rest of your Monday. Now let’s all face the rest of the week!

Oatmeal Lovers

So who here loves their oatmeal? I know I do! But during the summer, I don’t want something warm for breakfast. However, lately I’ve been able to have my bowl of oatmeal without breaking a sweat! Thanks to frozen fruits. I just cut up whatever fruit I want to use and stick it in the freezer overnight and voila. I just mix in the fruits once the oatmeal is already in my bowl.

Yesterday my parents surprised me with news. At the time it seemed like bad news, but I’m looking at the positives. They told me that I have to go down to Florida for about a month to get all my medical tests done. The whole ordeal has just been a frustrating experience, but I’m hoping to get it done with and start treatment for whatever it is I may have. Finally! I like being back home and Florida can be a paradise, but it gets boring there very quickly. I’m going to try to make the most of the situation though. I guess that means finally trying out some of Angela’s recipes! I’ll see it as time I can work on myself inside and out. A whole month of spoiling myself doesn’t sound so hard does it? Honestly, it’s really hard for me to allow myself to really relax. I feel like I always have to have my head above the water and keep swimming. I can never just… float. I’m realizing that I might be doing all this swimming, but am I really getting anywhere? So while I’m in Florida I’ll just pretend I’m a writer tucked away in a cottage, trying to get out of my creative funk.

I was looking through some pictures on my computer, and for some reason I felt like sharing. I’ll start off with a food related one, since this blog is mainly about my food adventures!

My bed was very close to the ground at my first place. I got the perfect amount of sunlight in that room.

On a somewhat related note, I feel this post has a lot to do with reflection. The act of reflecting can be something you do about the past, or even on yourself in the present. Either way, I believe for us to grow closer to who we are as people we should do this. The other day as I was reading other blogs I came across a post on Oh She Glows. This particular post deals with self-image, and we often belittle ourselves. Just thought I would share it with you all, and maybe you’ll get something out of it.

What do you do to nourish your mind, body, and soul?

Today the sun is shining (it’s been hiding all week), and it’s a Friday. I’d say it’s a wonderful way to start the weekend.

p.s. Thanks for all the advice on my last post. I feel a lot better about that whole situation.

Oh Woe is Me

Sorry guys, this is going to be a rant. I have so many things to share with you guys (SERIOUSLY), but I have no memory card reader. So that means no pictures! I don’t think I can post all of the things in one post, so I guess I’ll have enough material to last me! Material? Oh man, I’m writing this like I’m some kind of journalist. Anyway, I’d like to thank you guys for the suggestions! I really liked all of your ideas. It’s funny to think of all the little food quirks everyone has. Sometimes I feel like I’m really weird and “who would do that?” But I think in reality, we’re all like that. That’s what makes us who we are. Plus it’s quirks that make people fall in love, right?

This was during winter. I'm sure it kept her warm, but I can't believe I let her hair get that long!

Speaking of love. I am so frustrated in the romance department! I usually don’t have crushes on anyone, and when I do I get over them in like 2 weeks because I get discouraged. I feel like it’s pointless and there’s no way they’ll like me. I know that if a friend were telling me this I’d tell them to quit with the defeatist attitude and go for it. I think I’m just really afraid of putting myself out there. I remember when I was in 8th grade and I switched from an extremely religious (fundamentalist) school to a public school. Oh boy! I had 3 crushes at once. They also happened to be best friends. I told them that I liked them, and I was sadly rejected. Not once, not twice, but three times! One of them actually told me, “I have a girlfriend right now, but when I break up with her maybe we can go out.” Excuse me? Definitely a middle school moment. So remember that guy I was talking about? Well, he’s just a ball of confusing and despair. But he’s so cute! Gah! I want to put a picture up here, but I think that might be too creepy haha. Anyway, when we talk it’s great and everything. And sometimes when it’s really not that interesting (like when he asks me a lot about myself) he really stretches the conversation. Then he will say that he wants to hang out and makes plans and that he’ll call. Then he doesn’t call. It’s so annoying! Next time I talk to him I’m going to ask him if he usually does that, or what his deal is.

Boys are weird.

So to make this not too terribly boring, here’s a video I made for my last project in my last sculpture class. Just click the still, and enjoy!

p.s. the other day I made a vegetarian version of Burger King’s Whopper! Well it was more like a Whopper Jr.  It tasted really good, but I can’t say it’s like I remember… because I can’t! I think the last time I had one I was around 7 years old.

I ate in my bed and managed not to get ketchup on my white sheets.

Decisions decisions

Okay, so I really want to make some oatmeal with crystallized ginger. Yes, I did complain about oatmeal being too hot for this weather, but I realized that if I mix cold fruits it helps to cool it down.

So here is my question for you guys:

What should I choose for my special bowl of oatmeal + crystallized ginger?

- Peach -

- Lemon (I’d use lemon juice) -

- Mandarin orange -

- Cherry -

- Or anything else you can think of -

Here are some pictures from when I went to visit my friend, Liz, in New York in December. I’ve been thinking a lot about her lately and going to see her. It’s my turn to visit her since she came to see me in Richmond last. She’s such a good friend. You know when you have those friends that you don’t talk to all the time, but when you do talk it’s like time never went by. I feel so at ease with her and I can totally be myself. I love that!

On another note, the other day I tried Kashi GoLean Crunch cereal for the first time. Let’s just say, I could definitely be hooked. I’m just trying to work on staying within a budget, and I already have cereals plus other breakfast foods. Not to mention there’s no room in our pantry. I can’t wait till I move out of with Kim. I think living with one other person is the best choice for me. Currently I live with 3 other people (it was 4 before), and I hate having to label our food and such. I also dislike that some of them don’t understand the idea of respecting other people’s property. It’s just hard because people naturally make assumptions, and there are plenty of assumptions made in my current household that put a lot of strain on things. For instance, people would assume that someone was going to take out the overflowing garbage. Why is it so hard for that someone to just take out the garbage? What I mean is, if you see that it needs to be taken out, why wait for someone else to do it?!

So remember how I made a green smoothie the other day for the first time ever? Well, it was delicious! However, I’ve been discouraged to make another one anytime soon. I got the funkiest stomach feelings afterwards. What a disappointment, huh?

IMG_2569This is from a long time ago, but I thought I should post about it because it was incredible! I marinated some tofu to taste like ham. Honestly, I don’t know if it tasted like it or not because I don’t know what ham tastes like. But I can tell you that my taste-buds didn’t mind these tofu bites one bit! I served them with tomato slices, sauteed spinach with a dollop of sour cream. Over in the back (saving the best for last) is a slice of asiago and peppercorn bread with sour cream, some of the spinach, topped with the “ham”. Even though this was a long time ago, I still remember thinking that this was one of the best sandwiches I had ever made.

I’ve spent the last couple of days at one of my roommate’s parent’s place. Which explains why I haven’t posted anything over the past couple of days. My next post will include some secret flavor (for right now) ice cream and roomie kale baking adventures!
